The Ministry of Women and Child Development, Govt. of India and Govt. of Karnataka has selected our organization for the implementation of its novel programme “SWADHAR GREH” in Mandya District. This innovative programme has been designed by the ministry keeping in view the need of the women in difficult circumstances. In the beginning the Jnana Sindhu Swadhar Centre was specifically catering to the widowed women and later all categories of women were included in the programme.

The Centre was inaugurated in February 2005 and has successfully completed Fifteen Years of services, carving a unique place for itself in the district. So for 694 women beneficiaries and about 150 dependent children have availed of the benefits of the scheme. Women are provided with counseling facilities for improvement of their morale and self-confidence.

Rehabilitation training in Tailoring, Typing computer Training, Doll Making, Paper Covers and Box making are taught in the Centre itself and some intelligent beneficiaries are sent for training in computers and Beautician Courses in other Centers. A batch of women have also been trained in Mushroom Cultivation at the V.C Farm, Mandya Many women are actively involved in the garments manufacturing process of certain private entrepreneurs and are on the verge of making a loving of their own. These programmes are conducted to enable them to earn their livelihood either as self-employed person or as employees in other establishments.

These women are given free food and much needed shelter (security) apart from periodical medical check up and treatment. In necessary cases, women are also provided with legal advice, by the Legal Consultant at the center.

The center is being looked after by a Residential Superintendent and has a resident Counselor. Women with specific qualifications and capabilities are appointed for both these posts. There is a qualifies Tailoring Instructor and a cook and helper to look after the basic need of food for the inmates of the center. A chowkidar looks after the security aspect. The activities at the center are all well documented and periodic progress reports are submitted to the concerned authorities as per the guidelines of the programme.

The organization is making efforts to establish a Ready made Garments Production Centre with a view of rehabilitating the beneficiaries of the Swadhar Programme.

The organization is being extended all the necessary guidance, help and support of the Officers and Staff in the Department of Women and Child Development, Mandya District, in all its social endeavors and it its also very confident of getting every co-operation for them in its future

Currently, the project is providing assistance to women between the age 18 years and 45 years, hailing from different parts of Karnataka including widows, women with disabilities, economically backward and those who witnessed abuse and trauma.
